Keyboard tester online - free laptop keyboard test
Press every key on your laptop or PC keyboard. Each key lights up while pressed and turns green once it works - so dead, stuck or double-typing keys stand out immediately.
Click here first, then start typing. Keys you press turn green.
Reading the keyboard test
- Key stays white - the key does not register: dirt under the keycap, liquid damage, a broken key switch or a fault in the keyboard ribbon cable.
- Several neighbouring keys dead - usually liquid damage or the keyboard connector on the board (one row/column of the key matrix is lost).
- Orange frame = auto-repeat while held - normal when you hold a key; if a key repeats or stays lit without being held, it is stuck or shorted.
- Faded keys - not every laptop has them (number pad, Ins, PrtSc, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, Menu, Win, right Ctrl, the extra \| key of UK/European keyboards). They count only once pressed, so a laptop without them still reaches all keys tested.
- Fn is handled inside the laptop and never reaches the browser - test it with the Fn shortcuts (brightness, volume).
